Patsy Dorsey Fund Raiser
Santa Barbara resident Patsy Dorsey is a long-time endurance
athlete and
trail enthusiast. Patsy has completed the Vermont 100 Mile Endurance Run.
While training for a variety of endurance events in the 1980's, Patsy had a
dream of running with her friends on the Santa Barbara front country trails
that she loved. That was the inspiration for the Santa Barbara Nine Trails
35 Mile Endurance Run. Patsy's dream came true in 1990 when she invited some
friends to run most of the front country trails between the Jesusita
trailhead and the Romero Canyon trailhead.
Patsy's vision and hard work helped introduce many people to the beauty of
the Santa Barbara trail system and ultramarathon running. Patsy coordinated
and organized the SB Nine Trails run from 1990 to 2005. She was diagnosed
with cancer in 2003 and continued to manage and direct the Nine Trails run
until it became too much for her. Fortunately, with great fortitude and an
even greater attitude, Patsy has successfully managed her illness.
The Nine Trails run continues to be held on the Saturday of Thanksgiving
weekend each year, under the direction of Luis Escobar. The Nine Trails
was
Patsy's "baby", and she felt strongly that Luis was the only person
she
could trust to take care of her "baby".
Patsy's cancer treatments have taken a huge toll on her financially. Those
of us who have benefited from Patsy's creation and management of the SB
Nine Trails run are now asked to make a financial donation to assist Patsy
to continue to obtain the full range of cancer treatment that her condition
requires, so that she can become 100% cancer-free.
